The goal of the course is to give students important skills and knowledge that are not normally taught at school. Another objective is to bring alternative learning methods to the high schools and to develop new methods instead of traditional lecturing and reading.

Timeline of the project

The traineeship period lasts for 4 months, from January to the begining of May.

Preparation period - January

The traineeship starts in the beginning of January with trainings and preparation in Helsinki. Trainings will cover eg. global issues, different teaching methods, Finnish culture and school system. Preparation time will be given to finalize the course plan together with the project team and externals. January will also be the time for the trainees to see Helsinki and get to know each other.

Course period - February-April

The interns, divided in groups of three, leave to the hosting cities: Jyväskylä, Oulu, Tampere and Turku. During the 3 months period, each group delivers the course in 4-6 different high schools around the host city. The trainees give classes in each high school 3-4 hours a week, one school for each weekday. The rest of the working time is meant for preparing for the classes and coordinating the e-learning and other tasks that students do as part of the course.

As some of the schools are located up to 100 km away from the city where the interns are staying, they have the opportunity to spend 2-4 nights a week in host families close to the schools. The interns will have one week off from work during winter holidays and a few days around Easter. AIESEC will help the interns with travel during the holidays.

Closing event -April

The high school course ends in mid-April with a common closing event gathering trainees, students, teachers, aiesecers and externals together.

Summing up - April

Trainees are brought together to review the traineeships, share the experiences and afterwards celebrate first of May together with Finland!
